About Open Arms ELC in Philadelphia
Open Arms Early Learning Center is a play-based learning facility in Philadelphia. We care for children from 2 to 5 years old and provide a range of age-appropriate resources and activities to encourage their development. By blending indoor and outdoor classrooms and environments in a home-away-from-home environment, we are able to create a space where children feel empowered and ready to learn.

Who We Are
Open Arms Early Learning Center got its start in Philadelphia by Joy Maxwell. With years of experience in teaching and child care, Joy decided to create a space which fosters early learning in a fun and safe environment where children feel empowered to explore the world around them.
We believe our innovative approach gives children a bright and positive start in life as we encourage both exploration and discovery as well as emotional intelligence and building friendships.
Facilities
Our whole facility is filled with light and decorated with lots of colors, creating a joyful and energetic atmosphere within the center.
At Open Arms Early Learning Center, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional care.
Caterpillars
We call our 2-year-olds Caterpillars
because we can see just how much
they're going to grow! Our low ratios and
dedicated staff provide the Caterpillars
with the individual care and attention
they need at a young age. We support
their development through the
use of sensory activities and age-appropriate toys.
Butterflies
Our Butterflies are aged 3-4 years old. Having blossomed as Caterpillars, Butterflies are given lots of hands-on activities. They are given lots of opportunities to play and explore with open-ended resources and role play materials. Activities are all designed to not just be age- and stage-appropriate, but adaptable to each child's ability level. We encourage children to learn and play with others as a part of their development, developing their social and emotional skills through group activities.
School Age
For our 4-5-year-olds, our focus is on
school readiness. The room is filled with exciting learning materials and the
children are given every opportunity to explore the world in new and exciting ways.
Creative resources, reading materials,
and math equipment combine in our
center to give children the strong educational foundations they need in preparation for the next step in their educational journey.
Outside Space
A fenced-in play area offers the children the opportunity to get outside, enjoying the fresh air
and exploring the natural world. We have a variety of playground equipment for them to jump, climb, leap, and play on, helping to develop their gross motor skills, as well as their social skills.
We also have a Garden which the children visit
twice a week with our gardening teacher. Here,
they grow their own plants and can learn more about nature, including insects and growth cycles. It’s a fantastic opportunity to mix up how we teach the children and give them a hands-on experience!
